Out of sight, out of mind
People with ADHD can find it hard to remember what possessions they have, appointments can be missed and items on a to-do list are not attended to. Modern organisational systems often hide things away. Planners, diaries, computer filing systems, cupboards and wardrobes are great, but a person needs to be able to remember what has been placed where. Floordrobes (clothes piles), messy desks and white boards work because a person with ADHD can see what they have and what information they need to attend to.
- Messy desks are fine.
- Open organisation systems work well, including clothes rails and shelves.
- See through storage boxes are golden.
- If you have a planner, don’t close it, leave it open!
